今回の終業式も放送にて英語で行いました。

その冒頭部分です。

On July 20, 1969, exactly 53 years ago, an American lunar module separated from the Apollo 11 rocket and landed on the moon. On that day, two astronauts walked on the moon for the first time in the history of humankind. As one of the astronauts, Neil Armstrong, took his first step, then he famously said, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

I was a small boy at that time and remember watching this historic scene on TV. Yes, it was a giant step for mankind. It was a great scientific advance. Since that time, science has advanced a lot.

However, these three years or so has shown that we, humankind, have not yet controlled nature by using scientific technology. We still do not know 100% about nature. For example, we still have a long way to go to control corona virus infections. We still suffer from natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunami, heavy rain, typhoons, and so on. In other words, science has not yet advanced as we expected. We need to study science more.

本校の生徒が科学的な進歩に少しでも貢献してくれることを願っています。
